| 4 October 2009 - Mark Calder runs the Loch Ness Marathon As a Palestinian NGO promoting active non-violence in the region in a variety of ways, and always being careful to respond to the needs in this respect, MEND is planning to use the money raised by Mark Calder's Marathon efforts for two purposes: 1) For youth camps to promote active non-violence among Palestinian youth. MEND is currently developing a new approach combining adventure with non-violence to make the camps attractive to large numbers of young people, and to develop their leadership capacities. Some of the funding will be used to organize at least one camp for up to 60 people, who will then continue to promote active non-violence among their peers. 2) For organizing open "town hall style" meetings for a cross-section of Palestinian society in towns in the West Bank to discuss the impact of violence on Palestinian society and to explore the concepts of active non-violence and of human security. details |
