HOSPITALITY APPRENTICESHIP AWARDS - ENTER NOW!
SEARCHING FOR THE APPRENTICESHIP STARS OF HOSPITALITY
Don't miss this great opportunity for you and your staff to have their achievements recognised.

There are now a little over 3 weeks remaining before the closing date for the Hospitality Apprenticeship Awards 2010. Three categories of award will recognise excellence on the part of Apprentices, Employers and Apprenticeship providers. See attached details.

Together with other members of the Hospitality Skills Alliance we have teamed up witht the Awarding Body, EDI, to launch the Awards. They are being supported by a number of industry bodies including the British Hospitality Association, the Institue of Hospitality and the National Skills Academy for Hospitality.

MASTERS OF CULINARY ARTS 2009 ANNOUNCED
The Academy of Culinary Arts tonight announced the winners of the Master of Culinary Arts 2009 – the UK hospitality industry’s most prestigious awards held every four years – during a Gala Presentation Dinner at Claridge’s. Nine of the talented finalists demonstrated to the judges the high standard required to achieve this supreme honour.

RECORD NUMBER OF APPLICANTS THROUGH TO THE FINAL OF THE MASTER OF CULINARY ARTS 2009 The British hospitality industry shows itself to be in great shape as a record number of 21 exceptionally talented professionals have successfully completed the semi finals in June to make it through to the finals of the Master of Culinary Arts 2009.

Highest Scoring Candidates in the AAE 2009 Announced
On Tuesday 14th July the Academy of Culinary Arts announced the highest scoring candidates in the Annual Awards of Excellence 2009 at a spectacular Gala Dinner held at The Langham. They are:

In Kitchen: JAMES MITCHELL – The Royal Automobile Club
James is one of the Academy’s star graduates from the Specialised Chefs Course at Bournemouth & Poole. He trained with Philip Corrick at the RAC from 2001-2004 and has been at the Club ever since. James is also son of Academician Keith Mitchell, Executive Chef of the Grand in Eastbourne.

In Pastry: ALISTAIR BIRT – Tummies Bistro
Alistair, who trained at Thames Valley University, has recently won his place, against serous competition. as the UK Skills Pastry candidate for World Skills in Calgary, where he will be representing Britain in 49 days time.

In Service: CELIA VAUGHNS – Galvin at Windows
Before moving to Galvin at Windows, Celia worked for Le Gavroche where Silvano Giraldin says of her “Celia was a very, very good girl. She always went that ‘extra mile’, willing to learn more and to please the customers, the service and the brigade. She has exceptional qualities and I always knew that she would succeed”

Honorary President of the Awards, Heston Blumenthal OBE, who presented the awards, commented:
“It is great to see so many talented and ambitious young people, who are the future of our industry, working so hard to achieve this prestigious award. The Annual Awards of Excellence provides a key opportunity not only to encourage these young chefs, pastry chefs and waiters but also to reward them. I was really impressed with the overall standard and would like to personally congratulate all those who took part.”

Culinary Trio Top Annual Awards of Excellence
Three rising stars in the hospitality industry have topped their respective categories in this year's Annual Awards of Excellence, a competition run by the Academy of Culinary Arts to recognise the sector's best young talent aged between 20 and 26.

Brian Turner CBE Opens Great Ormond Street School Kitchen
Brian Turner CBE, President of the Academy cut the ribbon to open the Academy of Culinary Arts' Chefs Adopt a School funded kitchen at Great Ormond Street Hospital on 9 March 2006. This is the second child friendly kitchen that CAAS has funded.

A new group has been set up for everyone involved in producing and selling high quality mutton. The Mutton Renaissance Club was launched by the Academy's patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales on Thursday 2 February 2007at The Ritz London.

Master of Culinary Arts 2005 - Audience with His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales
On 12th May 2005, professional chefs, pastry chefs and restaurant managers from all over the country battles it out in the finals for the prestigious award of 'Master of Culinary Arts', one of the toughest competitions in culinary arts today. Of the twenty candidates who made it to this stage, just three were successful in gaining the award. These were: André Garrett, Orrery (Kitchen section), Martin Green, White's (Kitchen section) and Benoit Blin, Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons (Pastry section). There were no winners in the Restaurant Management and Service section this year.
